P & O Ferries has invested over £400 million to create a fleet of the fastest, most modern ferries for the Dover to Calais route and with seven ships, operates a round-the-clock schedule of up to 35 return sailings every day, thats a crossing at least every 45 minutes (30 minutes at peak times). Crossing time is 75-90 minutes.
On the western channel, P & O Ferries Pride of Le Havre and Pride of Portsmouth operate from Portsmouth to Le Havre up to three return crossings daily, taking 5½ hours during the day and 7½ hours at night. On the Portsmouth to Cherbourg route the conventional ferry, Pride of Cherbourg takes around 5 hours for the crossing while the high speed ferry Cherbourg Express takes just 2¾ hours. A further high-speed ferry service operates from Portsmouth to Caen up to three return sailings daily and takes around 3½ hrs.
For sailings to Northern Spain, P & O Ferries operates the luxury cruiseferry Pride of Bilbao twice weekly from Portsmouth to Bilbao. The crossing time is around 33 hours. On board facilities include 4 restaurants, 2 cinemas, 3 bars including show bar with full entertainment programme, swimming pool, sauna and much more.
On the North Sea, P & O Ferries operates two routes. The nightly Hull to Rotterdam service is operated by Pride of Hull and Pride of Rotterdam, two of the newest, and by far the largest, of P & O Ferries fleet each at 59,925 tonnes and designed to offer new standards in passenger service, accommodation and comfort. Journey time is 10 hours. On Hull to Zeebrugge. the Pride of York and Pride of Bruges operate each night with a crossing time is 12½ hours.
Across the fleet, on board services and facilities are well developed, and continue to be developed, based on elements of the Brand World concept pioneered on the Dover to Calais fleet in recent years. These include a range of eateries from full waiter service to self-service restaurants, a choice of seating and lounge areas, video arcade with all the latest and the best in video game technology and on board shopping.
On longer duration sailings across the North Sea, the western channel and to Spain, P&O Ferries offers a variety of entertainment for all ages. The program varies from ship to ship, season to season and on the route, however, P&O Ferries provide a choice from top cabaret acts, live music, hot disco shows, latest cinema films, casinos, to live entertainment for kids and child playrooms especially designed for small children. In fact, the entertainment is so good that many passengers tell P&O Ferries is one of their main reasons for travelling with them.
In 2003 P&O Ferries received major industry awards including Best Ferry Operator - All other routes (Travel Weekly); Best Operator Short Sea (Travel Weekly) and Best Ferry Operator Short Sea/ Channel (TTG British Travel Awards).
