Each of Denmark’s three largest areas has its own unique culture and folklore. Wherever you go, you’ll find the locals friendly, the scenery peaceful and the beaches perfect for families.

NORTH JUTLAND has Long hours of sunshine and clean sandy beaches make North Jutland an ideal choice for families; you can relax by the sea or take off to explore the tiny fishing hamlets, bustling market towns, castles and churches. Water lovers are in their element here with sailing, fishing, swimming and windsurfing around almost every corner. There’s plenty to do on land too; walkers can take to the paths of the Himmerland Nature Park while golfers test their skills on the numerous uncrowded courses. Fårup Aquapark and Sommerland activity parks are always a big hit with the kids, and everyone is charmed by the 19th century fishing village of Skagen which has been an artist’s haven for over a century. Aalborg is the largest town in North Jutland, with eating and shopping opportunities galore as well as the Tivoliland Amusement Park.

MID-JUTLAND with it’s long sandy beaches, rambling moorlands and ancient monuments and castles on almost every horizon, mid-Jutland offers a warm welcome to every visitor. Visit the intriguing miniature town at Varde, together with the market towns of Ebeltoft or Ringkøbing which is almost 600 years old. For the children, Sommerland West, Djurs Sommerland and the Aqua Akvarium (Theme Parks) at Silkeborg provide all the entertainment they could ever want! ‘Roam’ in your car with the animals of Givskud Safari Park, and no visit is complete without a trip to the world famous LEGOLAND® an incredible miniature world built from over 42 million LEGO® bricks. The second largest city in Denmark is the vibrant city of Aarhus with its many shopping precincts, restaurants and music venues.

SOUTH JUTLAND is in the South and boasts a lavish and varied landscape together with many of the country’s best preserved ancient monuments, burial grounds, holy wells and churches. There is only 50 miles of land separating the two coastlines, so you’ll find a wonderful choice of long sandy beaches and tiny inlets just waiting to be discovered. Start with a trip to the royal city of Kolding, visiting its gardens and the ancient castle. Ribe is Denmark’s oldest town with a history which goes back to the Vikings. Children adore the great Rømø Sommerland Aquapark which has over 60 great activities for all the family.

FUNEN is such a small island, the coast is never more than 30kms away and lovely old seaside towns nestle into the shore. Strewn with tiny villages with half-timbered houses and hollyhocks in the garden, Funen has the highest concentration of castles, manor houses and ancient monuments in the whole of Denmark. You’ll find museums specialising in almost every aspect of Funen, from shipping to prison life. In the 800-year old maritime town of Assens you can visit the largest private collection of art and antiques in Denmark. Fyns Sommerland family park is also tremendous fun for everyone. Odense - birthplace of Denmark’s most famous son, Hans Christian Andersen - has a history going back over 1000 years. Hans Christian Andersen 2005 is the worldwide celebration of the writer’s bicentenary 2 April-6 December 2005. Today the parks and squares simply hum with life. The mighty castle of Egeskov in Kvaerndrup is Europe’s best preserved Renaissance castle.
